The 6th Street Cottons collection was inspired by my maternal
grandma,Verna May (Horn) Bischoff. My grandparents were
married on November 5th, 1937, in Maryland, but they lived
on North 6th Street in Burlington, Iowa, my entire life. Their
house on the bluff overlooked the mighty Mississippi River. We
were honored to be able to return to my grandparents' 6th Street
property to take photos of the quilts for this fabric collection.
As a child growing up in rural Iowa, a trip to the city to visit my grandparents was
always a treat. Overnight stays usually included my brother and a few cousins, which
meant staying up late, playing cards and board games, and getting to ride our bikes
in town!
The 6th Street Cottons collection and companion patterns celebrate the memories
made with Grandma and Grandpa Bischoff.
Julie, her husband Greg, and their many pets
live in rural southeast Iowa. Me & My
Stitches began there in 2009 when Julie
decided to make tiny little quilt blocks
and turn them into jewelry. That
endeavor quickly flourished, and in just
a few years her business grew so much
that she turned her hobby into a full-time job.
In 2019 Julie joined Robert Kaufman Fabrics
and designed her first line of Civil War-era
reproduction fabrics. She draws inspiration
for her designs from her wealth of family
history and childhood memories.
