The family farm was homesteaded when Matthew and Sarah Latty (my great-great-grandparents) settled in Des Moines County, Iowa, in 1833, in a log cabin they built. They lived UNDER their wagon while they built the cabin! They had ten children – maybe that's why Sarah looks so grumpy in the picture!? Later they built the home that my dad lived in his entire life. After they built it, Matthew & Sarah's log cabin was used for a school. The cabin pictured here is in Crapo Park, in Burlington, Iowa and the rafters in it came from the Latty log cabin. sarah's CaBIN by Julie Letvin 40" x 40"
